INQUIRE WITHIN

TODAY'S AMERICAN WORKER

The key to financial security and a fulfilling career is actively taking the steps needed to make sure we and our loved ones are FutureProof. All industries are feeling the impact of technology, globalization, and longevity. The way we work is changing. As upskilling becomes more of a reality—a necessity—we must continue to explore new pathways to preparing ourselves for whatever comes next in the workplace.

FUTUREPROOF

In September 2016, WorkingNation released Slope of the Curve on CNN. Directed by Academy Award-winning director Marshall Curry and narrated by Emmy winner Anthony Anderson, the film raised the alarm on the rapid pace of change happening in employment. Now for the first time, we are proud to present our follow-up animated film, FutureProof. The workplace landscape continues changing at an astoundingly rapid pace. Learning new skills and highlighting transferable skills will pave the way for workers to find new opportunities, including in jobs and careers that haven't yet been imagined.

THE CASE FOR UPSKILLING

Post-pandemic the emphasis is going to be on skills as millions of Americans navigate the new workforce. As more industries adjust to keep up with changing technology, workers will need to be ready.

VALUING THE SKILLS LEARNED ON THE JOB

Of the 63 million essential jobs nationally 42 million are filled by STARs, workers who are Skilled Through Alternative Routes. They're generally workers with high school diplomas who've been mastering new skills in the jobs they occupy and through alternatives to higher education. Byron Auguste, the co-founder of Opportunity@Work, joins editor-in-chief Ramona Schindelheim in this Work in Progress podcast.
